ShopperNova: a new way to shop!

Now this is pretty cool!

Nova yesterday released an app directly designed to enhance the power of the radio medium for retail.

ShopperNova is a revolutionary free app for iPhone that allows consumers to see what is
going on around them in the world of retail.

Traditionally, technology has led consumers away from bricks and mortar retail, rather sending them online, but ShopperNova has been designed specifically with retail foot traffic in mind. By combining the location services of the iPhone with retail promotions, ShopperNova will be one of the first technologies to drive consumers back into stores.

Retailers and brands simply add their promotions to a web based portal Nova has put together, and these offers are presented to the consumer on their iPhone according to how close that user is to that retail location.

ShopperNova offers paper free deals that are not complicated to redeem. Shoppers just
go into the store as normal.

This innovative approach has already paid off, with Nova assembling the hottest brands to be involved for launch, brands including AMF Bowling, Lorna Jane, KFC, Hype, Volcom and Bras N Things. The tool allows for highly targeted and instantaneous deals to be served directly from the retailer to consumers. Nova combines radio with the smartphone to assist Australian bricks and mortar retail.

Why does retail need an app like this?
Retail traditionally has been left out when it comes to technological advances. All new technology seems to drive people away from bricks and mortar and toward on-line. Now that we have location based phones, retail can now begin to use initiatives like ShopperNova to their advantage. They can talk instantly to users who follow them, and those in their immediate vicinity with the click of a mouse.

I much prefer bricks and mortar retail… am I a dying breed?
I dont think so. It's just online is now providing legitimate competition. We will now see retail take it up a notch in terms of in-store experience and service to make sure they have a compelling offer to make bricks and mortar shopping attractive. At the end of the day, its consumers that will win.
