One Direction: Concert Review, Sydney

What can one say about One Direction?

If you're a super fan, there's not much you don't know about them, of course.

This is the kind of dedication this world-famous, uber band demand now, and the fans give it to them willingly, in spades, on a platter. You get the drill.

Now, I don't fit the mould of a stereotypical One Directioner, nope I don't.

I am in my early 40s, but I am in possession of something which is 1D currency - an eager seven year old daughter. Ker-ching!

She has become a 1D fan slowly, coming across their music at school assemblies and then looking up their single anthology on YouTube (oh yes - the kids today!) and so, bingo… a super fan is born, created organically because she simply loves their music. Over the months of course she has cottoned on to the fact this quintet is super cute too, and so here we are… at the Sydney One Direction concert!

To say she is excited - well, as understated an observation as it is to see the gazillions (okay, around 30,000 people, but it SOUNDS like gazillions!) positively losing it.

And so they should - these adorable, engaging guys LOVE their fans. Really reach out to them. Make a super go at interacting with them and are genuinely connected to them. The ad libs and mini convos pre-song, and cute stories are all sprinkled in there, in between sets of songs that please even the obliging looking parent is rocking to.

The 'On the Road Again' tour rolled around seemingly super quick after the last time the lads were here, and the world tour has kicked off in Sydney, yay!

We are here on night two of the epic tour (which ends at the end of October this year, in Birmingham), and the boys are on fire.

The songs which make the crowd lose it are 'Best Song Ever' and 'Steal My Girl' and 'Story of My Life', and the most popular tracks you know and sing along to (c'mon, you know them and you do that), and the pyrotechnics only a few songs in make spectators believe they are in for fun from the outset. And we are!

With Samantha Jade as sweet-as and glorious support act, and McBusted rousing up the crazy-eager crowd pre-show, the whole night ticked the boxes for any parent accompanying or forking out for their kids' entertainment - it was more than value for money, that's for sure.

With a giant LED stage on the end of the ramp in the middle of the oval, it was pure pleasure to have the boys right-there waving to all their fans and interacting. They know what they want, and they give it in spades.

Harry Styles was hands down my fave the whole night - energetic and engaging and just… happy!

The other boys were just as giving - Niall, Liam, Louis and Zayn, although Zayn was the coolest of the bunch, instead wowing the crowd with his beautiful voice.

'Don’t Forget Where You Belong' was a crowd fave - with pictures of the boys from the early days, it reminded the crowd how far these young men have come - in just over four years!

If you have the chance to see One Direction on this tour, do it. You'll be glad you did. And now, as my daughter and I watch their videos together on her iPad, I feel even more bonded to her and to these talented guys who have kinda captured my heart.
